Australia Day Awards 2018 Nominations

1. Overview

Australia Day Awards will be presented for the Queanbeyan-Palerang Local Government area at the respective Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2018.

2. Citizen and Young Citizen Awards

AIMS

The aim of the awards is to recognise outstanding contributions to the local community between November 2016 and October 2017. Criteria for eligibility include the length and quantity of service, and the quality of service including individual acts of compassion, generosity, bravery etc.

ELIGIBILITY

The Young Citizen Award is open to those persons between 14 and 26 years of age as at 26 January (Australia Day).

The Citizen Award is for those persons over 27 years of age on that day.

  1. Any person (other than previous winners of the Award) who has contributed to their community between November 2016 and October 2017 is eligible to be entered and who resides in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Local Government area.
  2. Persons who have previously been nominated, but have not received an Award are eligible to be nominated again.
  3. Clubs, associations and individuals can nominate a person, the nomination of a club or association or any other organisation for the award, cannot be accepted for this award.
  4. Persons cannot nominate themselves.
  5. Must be an Australian Citizen.

Nomination for awards relating to events in Queanbeyan-Palerang can be made on a separate form.

JUDGING

 Entries will be judged by the Australia Day Annual Community Awards Committee. The decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  1. Complete and sign the application form online (below).
  2. If you require a hardcopy please visit one of our customer service offices at Braidwood, Bungendore or Queanbeyan.
  3. For hardcopy forms, please forward the form to:

  1. Nominations will be assessed on the information given in the form.
  2. Information given should be complete and accurate.
  3. Generalised statements such as 'the person is willing to offer assistance wherever needed' may be true and sound nice, but it gives little information for judging purposes.
  4. Distinction between past and present activities.
  5. Also highlight any achievements or initiatives of your candidate as a member of an organisation and/or as an individual.

3. Community Event of the Year

AIMS

To select the best conducted events in Braidwood, Bungendore, Captains Flat and Queanbeyan between November 2016 and October 2017.

ELIGIBILITY

 The Community Event Award is open to:

  1. Any community event which has contributed to the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional community during 2017, is eligible to be entered.
  2. Community events which has previously been nominated but have not received an award are eligible to be nominated again.
  3. Clubs, associations, service groups and individuals can nominate an event/service.

JUDGING

 Entries will be judged by the Australia Day Annual Community Awards Committee. The decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
