1.Overview

At Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council we work to serve a growing and diverse community.

2.How to apply

To apply for a position, visit our list of jobs that are currently available (create link) and download the application pack. You will need to supply the following:

Cover letter

This should include a brief overview of your claim for the position. Include your contact details with a daytime phone number, and the position title and vacancy number of the position you are applying for.

Selection criteria

Displayed in the advertisement, these detail qualifications, skills and experience needed for the job including:

  • Essential criteria: qualities you must satisfy to perform the job
  • Desirable criteria: qualities that would assist you in the job.

Your answers will determine whether or not you will be interviewed. Where relevant, include your qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities and relevant work experience, supported with demonstrated examples.

Resume

Your resume provides additional information for the selection panel. Include:

Education credentials

Employment history: list your work history (including period of employment, position and organisation) in chronological order, starting with your most recent position.

Referees: Include at least 2 recent, work-related referees listing their names, position titles and daytime contact telephone numbers. We recommend notifying your referees of the position you are seeking to prepare them to speak on your behalf. Referees will be contacted if you are shortlisted.

Unsolicited applications

We don't accept unsolicited applications as all job applications need to address specified criteria as part of the selection process. To be considered for a position, only submit your application when the relevant position is advertised.

Overseas qualifications

When applying, please include a copy of an assessment of your qualifications by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR). This assessment advises on the educational level of an overseas qualification compared to the educational level of an Australian qualification on the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Your application may not be considered without this assessment.

Closing date

The advertisement for the position states the closing date. Council must receive your application by 5pm on this date for it to be considered. Late applications will not be considered.

3.Recruitment process

Once the applications close for a position we review these the selection panel create a shortlist of applicants that we intend to interview. If you are successful in gaining an interview you will be contacted and asked to attend.  Once the interviews have been completed the selection panel will make a decision about who they would like to offer the position to. If you are successful you will need to successfully complete a medical prior to receiving a job offer.
