Queanbeyan Riverside Tourist Park concept diagram

The Riverside Tourist Park on Morisset Street, Queanbeyan is being refurbished to modernise the facility and make it more desirable for the growing self-drive accommodation market, such as recreation vehicles (RVs) and caravans.

The park was closed temporarily and was reopened in September 2020.

In August 2018, Council resolved to support an upgrade of amenities and refurbishment of the tourist park to help meet the growth in demand for self-drive accommodation in Queanbeyan and support target markets identified in the QPRC Tourism Plan.

The refurbishment will provide:

  • 43 spaces of varying size for RVs, caravans and campers
  • an updated amenities building
  • improvements to the entry, including an entry pull-in bay that will reduce queuing on Morisset Street
  • a native garden with seating, BBQ shelter and play space
  • a kiosk that will be shared with the adjacent Queen Elizabeth II Park

The refurbishment will also provide for the extension and completion of the Queanbeyan River Walk. This will create a full circuit public walk around the banks of the Queanbeyan River from the low level bridge on Morisset Street to the suspension pedestrian bridge and back again. It will also provide an opportunity to expand the Queen Elizabeth II Park for community recreational use.

This builds on the work already completed to reinstate the Queanbeyan River as a sustainable watercourse and desirable destination for families, visitors and residents to recreate.

The project also includes street tree plantings on Morisset Street verge, an extension to the rockwork stablisation which is a feature of the Queen Elizabeth II Park, and connections from the park to shared paths of the river walk.

The park is expected to reopen in early 2020 as a short stay caravan and RV park. There will no longer be an option for long term accommodation.Council went out for expressions of interest for the management of the park in November 2019.
