The Queanbeyan River shared path will allow pedestrians and cyclists to navigate from the Queanbeyan CBD along the Queanbeyan River to Ellerton Drive. There is also a 2km loop within the Queanbeyan CBD which links the suspension bridge and the shared path bridge at Morisset Street.

Grant applications were submitted for three sections of the shared path:

Barracks Creek to Dane Street - we were unsuccessful in our grant application for the 2023-24 NSW Active Grants
Dane Street to Glenrock drain we were unsuccessful in our grant application for the 2023-24 NSW Active Grants
Glenrock drain to Thorpe Avenue (grant funding approved for design)

We received funding from the NSW Government under the Get Active NSW program to complete a detailed design for the Glenrock Drain to Thorpe Avenue section. This has been completed and will allow us to continue to apply for grant funding for the construction.

Stages completed

The shared path north of Barracks Creek (approximately 300m) near the EDE bridge (approximately 85m) connecting to existing paths has been completed.

The new shared path and bridge over Barracks Creek from Kenny Place has now been completed.

As part of this project a new section of shared path has been constructed along Thorpe Avenue. Construction commenced in June 2018 for this new section and was completed in November 2018.

A section of path that joined the existing shared path in Ray Morton Park near Atkinson Street, continuing along Waniassa Street through the sensory gardens was completed in November 2018.

A new river crossing upstream of the existing Morisset Street low level crossing and the main structure of the bridge was installed mid July 2019. The bridge was opened to the public in September 2019.

The section in front of the caravan park on Morisset Street was completed in early 2020.

The existing footpath from Marg Christensen Park to the suspension bridge along Trinculo Place was replaced with a shared path and was finished in March 2020.
