Call for representatives for Advisory Committees

Are you interested in getting involved with Council? We are looking for representatives from the community to be part of our Advisory Committees to help provide advice to Council.

Find out more about the committees below and applying using the online form. Apply before 5pm on Monday 24 February 2025.

Access Committee

The committee’s role is to provide input on implementing and reviewing actions in our Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022–2026, while helping to identify and remove barriers to participation for people with disabilities. Representatives offer advice on access and inclusion, highlight issues of concern, and address impacts affecting people with disabilities, including access to Council facilities and services. 

Meetings are held quarterly for this Committee.

Arts and Cultural Development Advisory Committee

The committee’s role is to provide advice and recommendations on cultural policies, plans, public art initiatives, heritage donations, and Council-led arts and cultural projects. Foster community participation, skill-building, and connections between Council and arts organisations to promote a vibrant and healthy cultural community. 

Meetings are held quarterly.

Flood Risk Management Committees – Bungendore, Braidwood and Queanbeyan

There are three Flood Risk Management committees - one for Bungendore, Braidwood and Queanbeyan

Their role is to serve as a forum to discuss technical, social, economic, environmental, and cultural issues, provide differing viewpoints in the Flood Risk Management (FRM) process, share local knowledge, and offer advice on community impacts and priorities. 

Meetings are held when relevant studies and plans being reviewed and developed.

Heritage Advisory Committee

The committee’s role is to promote, celebrate, and raise community awareness of heritage and advise on strategic heritage matters such as structure plans, local environmental plans, and development control plans. The Committee also offers recommendations on development applications referred by officers, and provides input on Local Heritage Grants and Awards. 

Meetings are held every 6 weeks on a Thursday at 4:30pm.

Queanbeyan Showground Advisory Committee

The role of the committee is to provide a forum to enable users of the Showground to have input into Showground usage and development. It also reviews the Plan of Management and its implementation. Once the new plan has been approved, the committee will no longer operate as an official Advisory Committee, however it may continue as a Working Group. 

Meetings are held quarterly.

Queanbeyan Sporting Gallery Committee

The role of the committee is to monitor high-achieving sportspeople in our region and consider induction into the Queanbeyan Sporting Gallery. 

Meetings are held as required.

Sports Council

The role of the committee is to make recommendations for the development and/or improvement of sporting facilities and recreational needs, this may include input into works programs. At the commencement of each sporting season the committee considers the allocation of sports fields across the LGA. 

Meetings are held quarterly on the first Monday of February, May, August and November.

Sustainability and Climate Change Advisory Committee

The Committee provides feedback on implementing Council’s Operations Climate Change Action Plan, the Net Zero Pathway Plan, and the Community Climate Change Action Plan, including suggesting ways to improve community engagement. It conducts annual reviews of these plans and offers input on Council’s internal strategies related to climate change, environment, and sustainability as outlined in the work program. 

Meetings are held bi-monthly on the third Wednesday of the month.

Youth Advisory Committee (open to those aged 12-25)

Membership to this committee is open to those aged 12-25 

The role of the committee is to build capacity, both of young people and of Council to improve opportunities for young people to participate in local decision making and youth activities.

Meetings are held quarterly.
