Council seeks nominees for Waste Strategy Working Group
Published on 31 May 2018
Residents from rural and urban areas across Queanbeyan-Palerang will have direct input to the development of a new waste strategy with Council now calling for community nominees to join a Waste Strategy Working Group.
Council is seeking two residential users from urban areas and two residential users from rural areas, to join business and industry users, councillors and staff on the working group.
Any interested person with a connection to Queanbeyan-Palerang and a passion for waste is encouraged to submit an expression of interest addressing some simple criteria in their submission. The ideal members will have a basic understanding of social, environmental and economic components of waste management, and good communication and liaison skills. Participants should also live in QPRC and be willing to allocate time to prepare for and attend meetings.
There will be four meetings of the working group which are expected to occur within the next eight months. The meetings will generally be up to four hours in duration and may be conducted during or outside business hours.
The Strategy is being developed to consider how Council delivers its waste services, consider access to services across the local area, to develop appropriate pricing structures and to look at improving waste management.
The first meeting will review a background paper and provide assistance in developing the approach to the first round of community consultation. The second meeting will review the consultation outcomes, review options arising from consultation and select options for inclusion in the draft strategy. The third meeting will review the draft strategy and financial model prior to it being released for community consultation and the final meeting will review the consultation outcomes and finalise the strategy and financial model for presentation to Council.
