Aspiring performers across the region will now have access to a professional pathway following the launch of The Q’s theatre company, Echo and the appointment of well-known actor Jordan Best as Artistic Director.
Since its opening 10 years ago, The Q has focused on bringing new and innovative work to the region and building its reputation as a top-class facility. While still sourcing quality shows from across Australia, The Q and Echo will have an increased focus on creating from within.
“The Q has been looking for an opportunity to take a leading role in recognising the artistic talent in our region and providing a professional pathway locally. We wanted to do something fresh and new,” said Stephen Pike, The Q’s Program Director.
Under the guidance of powerhouse actor and director Jordan Best, Echo will produce at least one show each year as part of The Q’s subscription season with a view to offering these shows across the wider region.
“This is a very exciting opportunity. I am looking forward to working alongside staff at The Q and with some of our region’s aspiring performers to produce some amazing shows and provide them with a pathway to success in the industry,” Jordan said.
Jordan has been recognised by the Canberra Critics Circle for her sustained body of theatrical work. She has recently completed a professional touring season of her 2016 production, Playhouse Creatures.
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council’s Portfolio General Manager Community Choice, Jacquelyn Richards said that Echo will provide a rich creative environment that will shine a spotlight on female playwrights and promote the amazing wealth of established and developing talent that enriches our cultural landscape.
“With her incomparable reputation and her passion for excellence, we are delighted that Jordan has agreed to partner with us as the Artistic Director of Echo,” Ms Richards said.
Echo’s first production, Belfast Girls, by Jaki McCarrick, will be developed during early 2019 and will form a key part of The Q’s next season.
