On Friday 25 November, Member for Eden-Monaro Kristy McBain MP and QPRC Deputy Mayor Esma Livermore unveiled a plaque to commemorate Her Majesty, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee tree planting at Garryowen Park in Queanbeyan West. Local state Member for Monaro Nichole Overall MP also attended in support of the community project.

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, Queanbeyan Landcare and members of the community came together on Sunday 6 November and planted 60 Acacia trees, 50 Callistemon trees, and 100 Eucalyptus trees in Garryowen Park as part of the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program.

Similar events have been held around Australia to mark The Queen’s 70 years of service and to help communities increase the area of tree canopy in their local environment.

The Queanbeyan tree planting was the first of three community plantings that will take place in QPRC. Bungendore and Braidwood residents are encouraged to get involved with their local planting events when they are announced in early 2023.

This project received funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program.
