Lifeguard on watch

Council is looking for locals to become casual lifeguards and swimming instructors at the Braidwood, Bungendore and Captains Flat pools. We also need more staff at the Queanbeyan pool.

Council plans to open the pools for the summer season from November to March, but we need more staff in order to open. Roles have been advertised in recent weeks, but unfortunately not enough positions have been filled to make swimming lessons and the regular opening of the pools viable.

“Being a lifeguard or a swimming instructor is a really rewarding job. You are in and around the water and interacting with lots of people in a fun environment,” said Team Leader, Aquatics Toni Taylor.

“As a swim instructor, you get to jump in the water and cool off from the summer sun, while providing children with one of the most valuable skills they’ll ever learn.”

“The local pools are an extremely important part of the community during summer.”

“Our swim school has been growing in popularity and we’d like to hire people to work as swimming instructors so that we can teach as many children to swim as possible.”

“These are ideal jobs for university students who can fit shifts in around their study, senior school students for after school or weekends, retirees with some time on their hands and the need for a bit of income, or anyone else searching for a casual summer job.”

For more information, please contact Toni at toni.taylor@qprc.nsw.gov.au or (02) 6285 6199. Pay rates are $30.38 per hour plus 9.5% superannuation and weekend penalty rates.
