QPRC Regional Art Awards 2018 winners announced

The winners of the 2018 QPRC Regional Art Awards were officially announced on Tuesday evening at The Q by Mayor Tim Overall. A crowd of around seventy people gathered to hear who would take out top honours at this year’s Awards.
This years’ guest judge was well known Braidwood based artist and author Robin Wallace-Crabbe. Robin was joined by Queanbeyan based artist and Director of Form Studio and Gallery, Claire Primrose. Both judges had a difficult job selecting this year’s winners, commenting on the diversity of entries and the high calibre of art works on exhibition.
The winners were:
$250 Youth Encouragement Award: Rayne Huddleston for his triptych “Tracking the Rainbow Serpent”
$500 Highly Commended Award: Sally Simpson for her charcoal and pastel drawing titled “Local Family: Wamboin 2018”
The Form Studio and Gallery Award for Professional Practice: Peter McLean for his work “Structure of reality (7 angles/3 colours)”
The $2,000 2018 Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council Art Award was shared by two artists:
Captain’s Flat artist Gunther Deix for his oil painting titled: “Beginning of Dementia”
Queanbeyan artist Erin Conron for her blown glass piece with multi-fired enamel titled “Arc #2”
Thanks to those who voted for the $250 People’s Choice Award. The winner was Holly Treadaway with her conte, pastel & tissue paper artwork "Mum, 90 years young".
