Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council have joined the People and Parks Foundation and World Urban Parks for the #NaturePact campaign this September.

The campaign is all about encouraging Australians to spend more time in nature, in our green spaces, urban parklands, backyards and nature reserves.

After the last 18 months of lockdowns and uncertainty many Australians have a new-found appreciation for the mental and physical wellbeing benefits that being outside can provide.

“NaturePact is a great reminder for all of us to enjoy the natural spaces close to home. Current restrictions impact so many of us and being able to spend time outside, even if it’s just in your backyard, can make a huge difference,” said Mayor Tim Overall.

The campaign overlaps with the new documentary series, Back to Nature (currently on ABC TV and iView) which showcases some of Australia’s most impressive landscapes and explores our connection to the natural environment.

“Each week of September will focus on bringing different topics to attention, from traditional owners and connection to country through to protecting and planting species native to your specific area,” Mayor Overall said.

#NaturePact aims to have individuals, families, groups and organisations make their own pact which suits their unique situation and lifestyle.

Each pact is completely up to the individual and is an opportunity to improve your connection to the outdoors.
