Commencing 10 October, Axis Youth Centre will be running a Koori boys group every Tuesday afternoon from 4-5pm. It was identified mid-2016 that there is a large number of displaced indigenous youth in the Queanbeyan area. This program aims to provide these young indigenous boys with opportunities to develop into strong indigenous leaders through cultural knowledge.
The main objectives from this program is for the participants to learn history and share stories, build confidence and resilence within the community, engage in the education system, address any barriers and learn traditional customs and practices. We will also work with these young indigenous boys to teach them to become mentors to the younger generation. There will be a number of practical activities, such as boomerang making, didgeridoo making, cooking and more.
Axis Youth Centre runs a number of events each year, with LiquidFest and Youth Fest being two of the highlights. The best way to stay up to date with our events is via our Facebook page: fb.me/AxisYouthCentre
