Captains Flat parklet before remediation work

The Foxlow Parklet has been out of operation since 2021 after soil testing identified higher than acceptable lead levels, linked to the former Lake George mine site that operated at Captains Flat from 1882 to 1962.

We have received funding from NSW Crown Lands to remediate the site, by excavating and removing contaminated soil and importing clean fill.

The Australian Government is funding a new playground under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Remediation works are starting mid-March 2025 and are expected to take around 6 weeks. Once the remediation works are complete, a new playground will be installed. This is expected to take around 3-4 weeks. We are aiming to complete the work before end of June 2025.
