Parking
Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council maintains a number of car parks as well as monitoring several private car parks, each of which you are welcome to make use of.
There is also timed on-street parking in different areas of the Queanbeyan-Palerang Local Government Area.
As always, pay attention to any parking-related signs so that you do not get a penalty notice and always respect other drivers and pedestrians whenever you are in your car.
Council employs Transport Rangers to monitor compliance with parking rules within the Queanbeyan-Palerang area. The Rangers are also responsible for monitoring behaviour in school zones (excluding speeding), parking on nature strips, abandoned vehicles and more.
Council has developed some information sheets regarding some of the matters mentioned above:
Recent changes to parking fine legislation – Fines Amendment (Parking Fines) Act 2024
The Fines Amendment (Parking Fines) Act 2024 came into effect from 1 July 2025 and this requires changes to the way parking fines are issued in NSW. This impacts every Agency in NSW that issue parking fines including Councils, Hospitals, Universities, Declared Organisations, State Owned Corporations and State Government Agencies.
How will I know if my vehicle has been issued with a parking fine?
If your vehicle has been determined to be in breach of Road Rules 2014 and issued with a parking infringement, the QPRC Ranger team may leave a notification card on your vehicle, unless the reasons for not attaching a notification or penalty infringement notice are complied with. This is detailed in section 24AD of the Fines Amendment (Parking Fines) Bill 2024 and includes where:
-
it is not safe to attach the notification, or
-
the vehicle is in a prescribed parking zone, or
-
the vehicle is not stationary, or
-
the regulations provide that it is not necessary to attach the notification
If you receive a penalty notice or notification card on your vehicle and need further information, please contact Revenue NSW after 48 hours to discuss the infringement notice and seek a review if necessary.
