Council received grant funding of $951,311 from the Commonwealth Blackspot program towards the design and construction of safety improvements works at the Macs Reef Road and Bungendore Road Intersection, Bywong. After seeking tenders for the work, Council received additional funding to cover design and construction costs and an extension of time. This was approved in March 2025.

The upgrade to the intersection includes:

  • A channelised right turn lane into Macs Reef
  • A channelised left turn lane into Macs Reef
  • Painted and concrete medians
  • Upgraded drainage channels
  • Street lighting

On 12 March 2025, Council awarded the construction contract to Cord Civil Pty Ltd. Construction is expected to begin 19 May 2025.
