This project was completed in April 2023.
During the March 2021 flood event, slope erosion and instability occurred along Cooma Road, south-west of Braidwood due to the Shoalhaven River eroding the downslope of the road embankment.
Cooma Road is an important rural link between the Braidwood and Cooma communities and as such we have opted to redesign the road alignment away from the eroded/unstable riverbank embankment. This project includes the realignment of the Cooma Road approximately 60m further away from the existing failing river embankment. Remediation/protection of the eroded slope will also be carried out to mitigate further erosion at this location to ensure a safe connection is maintained within the local community.
QPRC engaged SMEC in 2021 to undertake a concept options assessment and concept designs for the remediation of Cooma Road. SMEC were subsequently engaged in March 2022 to provide detailed design, cost estimates and contract administration during the tender and construction phases.
Project funding is through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
