George Street water main renewal

The existing 100mm water main located in George Street, Queanbeyan has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced. Council will undertake construction of approximately 290m of replacement water main in the southern verge of George Street, including replacement of water services and installation of new water meters. The existing main will be abandoned in place, with surface features removed.

The project is fully funded by Council from water charges.

Work includes

  • Temporarily closing a small number of the angled parking spaces in front of the Campbell and George for storage of materials and equipment.
  • Implementing traffic and pedestrian guidance schemes, including temporary restrictions on parking along George Street.
  • Minor pruning of tree branches to allow safe construction.
  • Laying a new water main within the road pavement of George Street.
  • Replacing property services and connecting properties to the new main.
  • Replacing existing mechanical water meters with new digital water meters.
  • Removing all surface features of the existing main and restoring all surfaces.

There will be short water outages and vehicle access to properties on George Street will be affected while the water main is  being constructed. Residents of affected properties will be advised prior to these interruptions.

Works will be undertaken:

  • Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm, public holidays excluded
