Road closures and detours

Motorists should follow the detour route along Monga Lane and Majors Creek Road. Detours are anticipated to add approximately 3-8 minutes to overall travel time.

Project update

The project is progressing on schedule for completion in June 2025.

The three heritage bridges were removed in early March 2025. As part of the project, we were required to offer the bridge timbers to local community groups for community projects that would showcase the timber's heritage signficance.

As at mid-April construction of the new concrete bridges is well underway. All piling works are now complete.

Bridge 1 (the closest to Braidwood) has both abutments poured, its planks put into place and work on formwork for the deck has commenced. We expect the deck to be poured at the end of April.

Bridge 2 (the middle and longest bridge) has both abutments poured and mid span piles in place. The bridge beams are expected to be completed in early May.

The bridge deck of bridge 3 (closest to Araluen) has been poured and work on the approach slabs has commenced.

Work on the road approaches is expected to start at the end of April.

Project background

We have received $4,636,500 as part of the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges program to replace the series of three timber bridges within 130m of each other on Araluen Road.

The Jembaicumbene bridges are between 6.6m and 37.2m in length and will be replaced with concrete structures. This will reduce maintenance costs, improve resilience to natural disasters and fire, improve safety and usability by increasing bridge widths from single-lane to two lanes. The bridges were showing signs of failure and their replacement will provide reliable heavy vehicle passage.

The works include:

  • Demolition of the three timber bridges
  • Construction of three concrete bridges
  • Lifting bridge heights
  • Increased bridge lane capacity
  • Upgrading road approaches.

Site establishment works began in early February.
