Captains Flat Total Flood Warning System - Design

For most residents in the Captains Flat township, the first warning they presently have of a flood occurring is inundation of their property or loss of access along roadways. This project involves design of a Total Flood Warning System (TFWS) to provide advance warning to the community of impending flood events.
Grant funding has been obtained from NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE) as part of the 2022/23 NSW Floodplain Management Program, with NSW DPE covering two-thirds of the project cost.
Council have engaged HaskoningDHV to produce designs for a TFWS for Captains Flat. Council will seek funding for construction of the TFWS following completion of the designs.
The following activities will be carried out as part of the design process:
- Site inspection and assessment – Complete
- Development of TFWS design options –Complete
- Community and stakeholder consultation – Complete
- Design of preferred TFWS –Complete
- Further community and stakeholder consultation –Underway
- Finalise TFWS design – December 2025
- Report to Council – December 2025
