Here's the summary of resolutions made at this week's Council meeting.

  • Council heard from three members of the public who made presentations about various matters on the agenda
  • Council authorised the General Manager to negotiate a revised monthly contract rate with Re.Group until a new facility is constructed and will write to the NSW Minister for the Environment and Heritage requesting financial assistance
  • Council supported the progression of a scoping proposal for rezoning of part of 141 Googong Road, Googong to a planning proposal subject to conditions and will consider entering into a Local Planning Agreement
  • Council deferred consideration of a development application for demolition of existing structures and construction of a 3-storey boarding house at 2 Ross Road, Queanbeyan pending a site inspection and further information
  • Council adopted in principle the name Holland Drive as proposed name for new road off Monaro Station Drive, Royalla and will advertise the name for 28 days
  • Council agreed in principle to dissolve the locality name of Back Creek into the adjoining locality of Mongarlowe and will publicly exhibit the proposal for 28 days and write to affected property owners
  • Council endorsed the final business case for the Queanbeyan Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade
  • Council declined the funding offer from NSW Department of Planning and Environment’s Floodplain Management Program for the Bungendore Overflow Channel and will consider the inclusion of $900,000 as Council’s contribution in the 2023-24 budget. Council will re-apply to the Program subject to funds being made available in the 2023-24 Operational Plan.
  • Council approved donation payments totalling $2,100 to community organisations that provided assistance for Australia Day 2023
  • Council will make representations to local Federal Member, Kristy McBain MP and the Federal Minister for the Arts and Shadow Minister for the Arts calling for sustainable funding for Trove and endorse NSW Public Libraries Association in lobbying for additional funding
  • Council permitted the temporary modification of one squash court at the Queanbeyan PCYC to be used as a private office and interview space, noting court will be restored when a permanent space is constructed
  • Council noted existing loan with Westpac Banking Corporation will reach the end of its fixed rate period on 27 February and will enter into a new loan agreement at a variable interest rate
  • Council received Investment Report for January 2023, noting return of $1,493,905
  • Council nominated Cr Macdonald as delegate for the vacancies on various committees following the resignation of Cr Ternouth
  • Council received six-monthly report on progress on the Delivery Program
  • Council received report on the proposed Bungendore History Walk
  • Council received report on successful projects that will be funded under the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund round 5
  • Council noted report on Councillor workshops held between 2-15 February including SRV scenarios and community feedback, Affordable Housing Strategy, Proposal for a new Telecommunications Tower within Googong Township, South Jerra Job Precinct Masterplan, CBD Masterplan and Monaro Street Project, Bungendore Overflow Channel, Rutledge Street Well
  • Council notes the minutes of Local Traffic Committee meeting on 7 February 2023 and adopted the recommendations from the meeting
  • In closed session, Council agreed to purchase property in Bungendore for a temporary office while new Council administration building and community centre is being planned and constructed. Council authorised the General Manager to execute the contract of sale for the purchase of 13 Gibraltar St for $1.65M.
