Current work
With the support of the funding body, we have facilitated the transfer of funding to Council. This will allow us to have greater oversight of the project and engage a project manager. We will also be able to ensure current and new contractors are paid.
We have engaged a project manager to complete the project, and have worked with local sub-contractors to continue works on the ground.
At the meeting on 23 April 2025, Council awarded the contract for the Braidwood Heritage Centre Completion Works to Trinity Quality Interiors Pty Ltd.
Trinity Quality Interiors have been engaged for completion works of Stage 1 of this project. Work involves completion of:
- 6 Bedroom Homestay including air conditioning
- Moving of the Lockup
- New Entry to the museum
- Aircon to both
- Part of the landscaping
- Connection between the front and rear parts of the site
Project background and previous work
The Braidwood & District Historical Society secured $3.75 million from the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund for the Heritage Centre project. The funding deed for the project required Council to be the principal on the construction contract.
NSW Public Works Advisory has managed the project until now. The project has been a complex one, with project managers and contractors working through many constraints. These have included negotiating the heritage site, getting the development application approved, ensuring access agreements with the nearby school, any excavation requiring archaeological study, ensuring the building is designed in such a way to be suitable for public visits, including accessibility considerations.
The bulk of the budget so far has been spent on construction costs and preparation of the site for construction. Funding has also been spent on project management, architect services, power line design and power poles, archaeology services, heritage services, geotechnical costs, development application and other fees, tree services, quantity surveyor, fencing and other supplies.
With around $1.9m spent to date, Council will be working closely with the Braidwood District Heritage Society to use the remaining funding to engage contractors to finish the first stage of the project.
