Council will be delivering a new 1.5-metre wide concrete footpath on Butmaroo Street, Bungendore to complete the missing pedestrian link between the existing footpaths on Malbon Street and Gibraltar Street.

The project was originally identified following community feedback at the Bungendore Community Meeting on 19 November 2025, where improving pedestrian access and safety along Butmaroo Street was highlighted as a priority.

Following further feedback at a Community Drop-in Session on 2 June 2026, we reviewed the proposed alignment on the western side of the street. Residents raised concerns about the safety of pedestrians and vehicles entering and exiting the service station.

In response, we have revised the design. The footpath will now be constructed on the eastern side of Butmaroo Street, opposite the service station. This alignment provides a safer and more accessible route for pedestrians.

The project will also include the installation of a missing pram ramp connecting to the existing footpath network at Malbon Street.

The revised alignment:

• Remains entirely within the Council road reserve.
• Retains all existing trees along the route.
• Results in no loss of on-street parking spaces.
• Improves pedestrian safety and accessibility, particularly for school children and other regular users of the corridor.

While there are existing stormwater pipes and NBN cables, these do no present obstacles to the footpath construction.

When will the work take place?

To allow time for updated community notifications about the revised alignment, construction has been delayed by approximately two weeks. Works are currently scheduled to commence on or around Friday 19 June 2026.

Council appreciates the community’s feedback and cooperation and remains committed to delivering safe, accessible and connected infrastructure for residents and visitors.

Traffic impact during works

The footpath construction works are expected to have limited impact on traffic movements along Butmaroo Street.

Traffic management will be in place to ensure the safety of workers, residents, pedestrians and road users.

Construction will be undertaken during normal working hours, weather permitting. Please note that the schedule may be adjusted due to unforeseen circumstances or wet weather conditions.

Future stage

We will be considering a future stage of footpath on the western side of Butamaroo Street, which includes high-traffic destinations such as the emporium (op shop) and church. This stage will depend on planning and design work to resolve safety issues, including at the service station. Funding will need to be secured in a future budget process.
