1. Development Waste Guideline

Council has adopted the Development Waste Guideline.

This Development Waste Guideline is intended for those involved in the construction, design, management, and operation of waste management in various types of development within our area. These include landowners, architects, designers, developers, planners, waste consultants, builders, certifiers, and building managers.

The Guideline outlines the required contents of Waste Management Plans (WMPs) for all development types, including single dwellings (SUDs), multi-unit housing, rural properties, subdivisions, shop-top housing, mixed-use, commercial and industrial developments.

Download the Development Waste Guideline(PDF, 7MB).

We also have a calculator (in an Excel spreadsheet) that helps with an assessment of how much waste will be generated by a proposed development. Download the Waste Management Plan calculator(XLSX, 96KB).

2. Business FOGO - Food Organics, Garden Organics

The NSW Government has new laws which mean from 1 July 2026 businesses or institutions that sell or handle food, like supermarkets, cafes, schools and hotels, must separate food waste from general waste.

Find out more about the mandate and the calculator which which determines if your business needs to source separate on the business food waste page on the EPA website.

You can also find information about the BinTrim tool which helps businesses assess their waste and identify actions to avoid and reduce it.
