Foxlow Bridge on Hoskinstown Road was closed to traffic on 24 April 2026. An independent structural engineers’ report noted progressive defects and evidence of new deterioration since the last condition assessment in 2024; and they recommended closing the bridge. To ensure the safety of drivers, the bridge was closed.

Council considered the Foxlow Bridge at the 13 May 2026 Council Meeting. Council resolved to endorse the closure of Foxlow Bridge to all vehicular traffic until further notice, consider an urgent temporary crossing, and will receive a report regarding the replacement, restoration, or adaptive reuse of Foxlow Bridge.

At the 27 May 2026 Council Meeting, a report about options for temporary crossings was received. Council resolved not to proceed with the Foxlow Bridge side track Options 1 and 2 on the basis of projected cost and delivery time, and requested staff to investigate and report back on more cost effective and immediately deliverable alternatives. Alternatives should include, but not be limited to, use or adaptation of the existing railway bridge corridor; a side-track alignment around Briars Sharrow crossing; and a ford in the vicinity of Foxlow Bridge.

The Foxlow Bridge has been the subject of a number of reports to Council. These reports have been made available on this page.
