Background
This project will provide new women’s change rooms at Freebody Oval. It is proudly funded by the NSW Government in partnership with the Australian Government.
Part of the funds received from the NSW Government will also go towards the project at Seiffert Oval to provide new women's changerooms for the Queanbeyan Blues Football Club.
Queanbeyan Kangaroo Leagues Club share amenities with the Queanbeyan District Cricket Club (QDCC) in the opposing seasons.
The men and women currently share the Cricket Club changeroom on game day, providing no privacy for the fast-growing women’s team. Queanbeyan Kangaroo Leagues Club also use the social room and kiosk, which is filled with cricket medals, photos and memorabilia.
The current building the Roos use for training was built around 1984 and is no longer appropriate for the size of the club. The building will continue to be used as a storage facility for the Club.
The project will build a stronger sporting community within Queanbeyan and acknowledge and encourage women and girls to participate in local sports with equal opportunities.
Designs have been completed by Mury Architects and staff are currently waiting for a Statement of Environmental Effects so that can submit a development application. Tender documents are being prepared and will be released in late May 2025.
