Drop-in sessions disaster volunteering

Are you someone who might be able to help during or after a disaster, who could volunteer in some way to help impacted community members?

Are you someone who’s experienced a disaster and volunteered in the past?

Through the Supporting Spontaneous Volunteers Program - a NSW Government initiative - Council has been funded to prepare a plan to coordinate informal volunteers during and after disasters, and we are hoping to get feedback from the community about the draft plan and how to support volunteers to make the most of their contributions.

What is an informal volunteer?

Informal volunteers are “individuals or groups of people who offer their assistance during and/or after an emergency and who are unaffiliated with any part of the existing official emergency management response and recovery system”.
