Environment and Waste Education

We offer hands-on environmental and waste activities for people of all ages. These activities are free and offered across our LGA. This includes:

  • Incursions and guided excursions for local daycares, preschools, primary and secondary schools.
  • Hands-on volunteering projects for primary and secondary schools.
  • Volunteering or events with community groups like Landcare, Rotary, Guides, Scouts, and the CWA.
  • Visits to residents’ associations and neighbourhood groups

Our Environment Education Officer covers education on our local environment, especially our local platypus and rakali, other native animals and plants, the local ecosystem and waterway health. They also offer guided bushwalks or educational walks, run citizen science activities like waterbug surveys, and cover a range of other environmental topics. They can also run some volunteering events for local schools or community groups – like tree planting and managing our natural areas.

Our Waste Education Officer can run education on waste sorting – including targeted waste sorting activities for preschool aged children, and education on waste reduction and what to do with those difficult items to recycle. They can also offer volunteering events like community cleanups, and can conduct bin audits at local schools.
