World Environment Day 2026

Education at Riverside Plaza in Queanbeyan
Date: Monday 1 June – Friday 5 June
Time: 1pm-4pm
Location: Riverside Plaza

Come meet our team at Riverside Plaza! QPRC’s environmental, sustainability and waste staff will have stalls set up at Riverside Plaza every afternoon from Monday 1 June to Friday 5 June - joined by a variety of environmental community groups from across the LGA. Come along and learn about our local environment and some of the fantastic initiatives you can get involved in!

Educational Walk in Queanbeyan
Date: Saturday 6 June
Time: 9:30am-11:30am
Location – End of Dane Street, Queanbeyan

Join Queanbeyan Landcare and QPRC for an educational walk along Queanbeyan River. Local experts from Queanbeyan Landcare will lead a walk discussing the ecosystem and native species around Queanbeyan, plus explore how you can get involved in restoring your local environment. Waterwatch will also conduct a waterbug survey. If you’re lucky, we might see a platypus!

Please wear enclosed shoes and sun protection. A morning tea will be provided.

Waterbug Survey at Turallo Creek (Bungendore)
Date: Saturday 6 June
Time: 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Location – McMahon Lake of McMahon Drive in Bungendore, near Bungendore Skate Park and Warren Little Oval

Come along and help conduct a waterbug survey! We’ll be looking for waterbugs in McMahon Lakes near Turallo Creek. You’ll earn how to catch and identify aquatic macroinvertebrates (waterbugs) and find out what they mean for our rivers!

Please wear enclosed shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet.
