QPRC undertook lighting audits across the 32 sports fields under its management to assess the condition, performance, and safety of existing lighting infrastructure. Following these audits, a priority list was developed to identify ovals requiring upgrades due to poor or unsafe lighting levels, as well as those that did not meet the required standards for sporting codes.
As a result of this assessment, Neil Bulger Oval and High Street Oval were identified as priority sites for lighting upgrades. The works will involve the removal of the existing halide light fixtures and their replacement with new 1500-watt LED fixtures. This upgrade will significantly improve the quality and consistency of lighting across both ovals, enhancing safety for players, officials, and spectators while also supporting compliance with sporting standards.
In addition to improving performance, the installation of LED lighting will deliver important operational benefits. The new fixtures are more energy efficient than the existing halide systems, which will help reduce electricity consumption and lower the ongoing costs of operating sports field lighting. Overall, the project will provide safer, more reliable, and more sustainable lighting infrastructure for these important community sporting facilities.
