Project update - April 2026

Works are now substantially complete and we are undertaking the final clean up and restoration. All works are expected to be completed by the end of June 2026.

Project background

The existing 150mm water main located in Bedford Street, Queanbeyan has reached the end of its useful life and is being replaced. Council is constructing approximately 300m of replacement water main along the western side of Bedford Street within the road pavement. The existing main will be abandoned in place, with surface features removed.

The project is fully funded by Council from water charges.

Work includes

  • Minor pruning of tree branches to allow safe construction
  • Laying a new water main within the road pavement of Bedford Street
  • Connecting properties to the new main
  • Removing all surface features of the existing main and restoring all surfaces

There will be short water outages and vehicle access to properties on Bedford Street will be affected while the water main is being constructed. Parking along Bedford Street will also be impacted. Council staff working on the project will liaise with businesses to minimise interruptions.
