Little River Road reopened to traffic on Friday 15 August 2025, and the project with all completed works on guardrail, line marking and the approaches was completed 22 September 2025.

Project background

The project involved demolishing the existing timber structure and constructing a new concrete bridge using InQuik components. The upgrade included roadworks on both bridge approaches. The new single-span bridge measures 18.5m by 8.42m.

HD Civil were the contractor doing the works, which included:

  • removing trees
  • installing a temporary pedestrian bridge
  • demolishing the timber bridge
  • installing the new concrete bridge.

Council crews conducted maintenance works on the detour via Northangera Road to improve the road condition and line of sight. The maintenance works included:

  • Traffic management
  • Pruning and removing trees that are leaning towards the road
  • Heavy grading
  • Vegetation management

Council received a $1.397m grant to replace the existing timber bridge at Tantulean Creek on Little River Road, Mongarlowe.

The closure of Little River Road began on 4 June. We delayed the closure from the planned start date of 19 May to allow us to consider advice from the ecologist survey that was done on Friday 16 May. The ecologist provided advice that allowed the project to proceed, with implementation of ecological mitigation measures, particularly during bridge demolition and vegetation removal or pruning.

This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government.
