Progress Update - 4 September 2026
The blinding layer of concrete has now been constructed. With this stage now completed, we expect to begin laying the base slab starting next week, weather permitting.
As the project is located in a residential area and includes works near the rear of some properties, the team will continue to communicate directly with residents who may be affected by upcoming activities.
Weather permitting, we expect to be completed in December 2026.

Project Background
Properties on the southern side of Maslin Place in Bungendore have a large open swale running through their property that drains a large area of southern Bungendore.
Dale & Hitchcock have been engaged to enclose the drain. The project will be managed on Council’s behalf by Black Mountain Construction Assurance.
The project will include approximately 210m of concrete box culverts and stormwater structures within the existing easement in residential properties, a new stormwater drain to capture runoff from Rosella Drive and from low spots from properties on Molonglo Street and a new box culvert parallel to the Kings Highway.
This project is funded by Council through a combination of general rates, developer contributions within the area and the stormwater levy.
FAQs
Where will the works be located?
The works are located for the most part within private property between King Street and Bungendore Mitre 10. Some works will occur on the western side of the Kings Highway in the same area.
Will Bungendore Mitre 10 or Bungendore Vet close during construction?
No, but there will be impacts to them. We have worked closely with them to minimise disruption and will continue to do so throughout the project.
How will construction traffic access the site?
Construction traffic will access the site from Rosella Place and exit via the Bungendore Mitre 10 driveway. Increased heavy vehicle movements will occur along King Street, Ellendon Street and Trucking Yard Lane during construction.
When can we expect the most traffic?
Construction traffic will be fairly evenly spread throughout the project. The culvert base will require multiple concrete deliveries across the day.
Will the Kings Highway be closed during the works?
We do not expect that the highway will need to be closed at any point during the works, but speed limits will be reduced when we work on the western side of the highway. Single lane road closures may also be required to deliver the project safely. We will provide more information about this when we are closer to working in this area.
Will any trees be removed?
Regrettably, several mature gum trees are located within the construction zone and will be removed. Council staff are assessing suitable locations for replacement planting in the area.
Does this solve all stormwater issues and flooding in this area?
Unfortunately not. All stormwater systems will be overwhelmed when rainfall intensity exceeds the capacity of the system. Floodwater from Halfway Creek will also still reach these areas. Flooding in this area is influenced by a number of factors that cannot be addressed by this project.
