Feasibility study works on the New Bungendore Aquatics Centre at the current pool site is progressing well. A review of the planning controls, arboricultural assessment, and heritage assessment have been completed, and their recommendations will be incorporated in the layout plan design. Following this, a services assessment and cost estimate will be prepared to support the feasibility report and inform the next stage of project planning.

Project Background

We had been planning for this to be located at the Bungendore Sports Hub as part of the works to create a sporting complex in Bungendore. A development application was prepared. The DA was later withdrawn due to issues including:

Flood Impact Risk Assessment - reliable flood evacuation routes would need to be addressed before a DA could be approved. This includes the requirement to plan for a Probable Maximum Flood, with a range of flood mitigation plans and procedures.
Odour assessment - the EPA identified concerns about the close proximity of the proposed sporting precinct to the Bungendore Sewage Treatement Plant. The EPA recommended a buffer of at least 400m and the proposal shows the pool being within 200m.
Electrical demand - the Aquatic Centre's electrical demand indicated that the substation on site at the Bungendore Sports Hub would be insufficient to support the new pool.

We have consulted with various internal and external stakeholders to gather input for the project requirements. This primarily focused on identifying necessary building features.

A concept design has now been developed by ‘Mode Design’ and the team is currently working on the detailed design.

We will be preparing a detailed feasibility review of constructing the design for the new Bungendore Aquatics Centre at the site of the current Bungendore Pool.
