On Saturday 2 May, we held the Queanbeyan-Palerang Heritage Awards Ceremony at the Rusten House Art Centre. There were five winners in two categories.
The winners of ‘Best Restoration, Development, or Reuse of a Heritage Property’ were David and Shelly Turner for their restoration of a Heritage Cottage on Stornaway Road.
This year for Category 3: Best Historical Research, Publication, or Promotion of Heritage, we had a three-way tie!
The first winner of this category was Gary Watkins-Sully for his rediscovery of a species of Apple known as the Rymer, which was thought to be extinct.
The second winner was Margaret Carmody for her Interpretative Signage Panels including – Historical Timeline of Parish, St Raphael’s Church History, and St Gregory’s Church History.
The final winner was Phillip ‘Phill' Hawke for his Facebook account, Queanbeyan Stories, which shares short anecdotes as well as long-form pieces on the history and development of the Queanbeyan area.
Congratulations to all our deserving winners!
