Reminder to all Dog Owners: Dogs Prohibited on Sportsgrounds

Council is reminding dog owners that dogs are not permitted on sportsgrounds. Fines may apply.

Sportsgrounds are shared community facilities used year-round by local sporting clubs, schools, and families. Dog waste on sporting fields presents hygiene and health concerns for players and ground staff. Dogs can also damage playing surfaces, interrupt sporting activities, and create avoidable hazards.

Sportsground locations being targeted this month include:
- Googong Sportsgrounds
- Jerrabomberra Sportsgrounds
- Brad Haddin Oval – Queanbeyan Town Park

Under NSW legislation - Companion Animals Act 1998 – Section 14(1)(c), fines may apply for breaches of the rules regarding dogs in prohibited places, including sportsgrounds.

Residents are encouraged to observe local signage and visit council websites for information about approved off-leash areas and responsible pet ownership.

Council appreciates the community’s cooperation in helping keep local sporting facilities safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you
