Tarago Road showing road before work starts on Stage 1

We received $3m from the NSW Government in February 2024 for rehabilitation and repair works on damaged sections of Tarago Road. These funds will cover six sections being upgraded. We have already completed five of the six sections.

We are planning to begin Stage 2 of the Tarago Road Rehabilitation Project in the second week of January 2026.

Covering 1.65km, this stage will link the previously rehabilitated section within QPRC with the newly constructed section of road by Goulburn Mulwaree Council.

The work will include:\

  • Completing significant earth works and vegetation management, including clearing and grubbing and the removal of specified trees, as recommended in the Review of Environmental Factors (REF).
  • Installing an improved drainage system – including construction of 4 new culverts, extension of 4 existing culverts and 2 segments of kerbing to manage stormwater more efficiently.
  • 300mm gravel rehabilitation of the road surface to improve durability and ride comfort.
  • Widened road shoulders, updated line marking and installing new safety barriers to enhance accessibility and safety.

Initial work will begin with the drainage system improvements, followed by clearing and grubbing activities.

The project is expected to take approximately 105 days, with project targeted for completion before the end of the current financial year.

The timeline is weather-dependent and may be adjusted accordingly.

Traffic management

During this project, traffic management will be in place with stop slow arrangements, with only one lane open to traffic. Council is aiming to minimise disruptions and keep the community updated on any changes throughout the construction process.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we undertake these essential road improvements for the benefit of our community.

Completed work

  • With the initial $2.2m in developer contribution funding, from mid-2022 to October-2023, we upgraded a 2km section starting just south of Mount Fairy Road and heading north on Tarago Road. It was completed in October 2023.
  • This included vegetation removal, road realignment, pavement rehabilitation, stormwater improvements and guardrail.
  • In 2023-24, three sections of stabilisation works were completed at an approximate cost of $800,000.
  • In 2024-25, two sections of stabilisation works were completed.
